Benfleet pair crash out of 250 mile Thames Ring endurance race

ALTHOUGH neither of the Benfleet Running Club members who attempted the long-awaited challenge of the Thames Ring — a 250-mile non-stop run — were able to finish, they did themselves proud.

Horndon win for Whittaker

In very hot conditions, more than 550 runners set off for the two-lap course round the village for the annual Horndon-on-the Hill 10k. The race was won by Paul Whittaker, of Southend AC, who is coached by Thurrock's ex world record holder Mel Batty.
