IT looked a perfect night for racing at the Watford Open on Wednesday night and so it proved with a whole host of personal bests tumbling to south Essex athletes.

Basildon AC’s Kaylee Dodd (U20) proved she’s in super early season form by knocking more than four seconds off her best in the 1,500m with a clocking of 4m 31.32s.

And she wasn’t the only one to PB.

Basildon AC’s Emily Bullis (U20 4m 56.69s) and Brandon Thorpe (U15 4m 48.66s), Southend AC’s Natasha May (U15 5m 3.45s) and Chelmsford AC’s James Nadin (U17 4m 16.3s) all recorded bests.

Adam Hickey (Southend AC) had his first run out over 1,500m of the year, clocking 3m 51.26s with team-mate David Gibbon running a swift 3m 56.03s.

Gemma Kersey ran a season’s best in the 1,500m of 4m 23.92s as did Basildon team-mate Maisie Jones (5m 6.92s).

In the 3,000m, Rayleigh’s Sophie Riches ran a strong 3,000m clocking of 9m 48.37s – the fourth fastest under-20 time in the country this year.

Riches’ team-mate Katie Solis (U17) ran 10m 36.41s
