A CYCLIST who was killed in a road crash in South Woodham Ferrers has been named.

Timothy Jennings, 52, of Burnham Road, Battlesbridge, died following the collision yesterday, May 2.

Emergency services were called to the roundabout connecting Burnham Road, Ferrers Road and Willow Grove just after 4am.

An Essex Police spokesman said Mr Jennings had been travelling towards Shaw Farm on Burnham Road when he was struck by a green Citroen Saxo that was travelling in the same direction.

Paramedics were called just after 4am, but nothing could be done to save Mr Jennings and he was sadly certified dead at the scene.

Police have now renewed their appeal for information.

PC Jenny Pirie, investigating officer, said: “We’re keen to hear from anyone who not only saw the actual crash, but those who may have seen this cyclist riding along this route on previous days.”

The driver, a 30-year-old man from the Southminster area, near Maldon, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

He has since been released on police bail until Thursday, September 12 pending further enquiries.

A section of the road was closed for seven hours while forensic collision investigators tried to establish the cause of the crash and recovery of the vehicle and cycle took place.
