Ukip and Labour took three seats apiece in Basildon as the Tories suffered a bruising night in the county elections.
The Conservatives, they only retained two seats – both in the Billericay and Burstead ward - while they gained another in Wickford Crouch in the Essex County Council Elections tonight.
But Ukip and Labour were the two jubilant parties as they gained three seats apiece in Basildon, in sharp contrast to 2009 when the Tories won every seat in the district.
Ukip gained seats in Wickford Crouch, Laindon Park and Freyerns, and Westley Heights.
Labour grabbed both seats in Pitsea and in Laindon Park and Freyerns.
