THE Tories have held onto three county council seats in Rochford after a bruising night.

Despite losing two seats to the Greens and Ukip – and almost a third to Labour - the Conservatives held Rochford North, Rochford South and Rayleigh North.

Tory Colin Seagers beat Labour’s Jerry Gibson in Rochford South by just 80 votes.

Terry Cutmore, who leads Rochford District Council, withheld a Ukip surge from Gerry Bolton to win by just over 200 votes in Rochford North.

Despite a strong challenge from Chris Black, Lib Dem leader on Rochford District Council, Malcolm Maddocks held onto Rayleigh North for the Tories.

The Conservatives lost Rochford West to the Greens and Rayleigh South to Ukip.
