BUILDING work on a development of four homes in Basildon could begin early next year if planning permission is granted.

Basildon Council has submitted plans for the two-bedroom houses at 14 Quendon Road, in Fryerns.

The development would replace the former Rainbow Family Centre.

The council hopes a policy of building on disused sites will help reduce opportunities for crime and anti-social behaviour.

Council leader Phil Turner said: “his exciting scheme will go towards addressing the need for two-bedroom homes in the borough.

“These housing schemes are absolutely vital to our ambition to create new, affordable homes for local people and to transform the borough.

“Residents in Basildon deserve good quality, sustainable homes which also improve the local area.

“The Council is taking the lead in addressing this issue for local people.”

The scheme is part of Basildon Council’s new homes programme, which also includes small schemes in Victoria Road, Laindon, and Rettendon Gardens, Wickford.
