A MAN has died after being hit by cars on the A12.
The pedestrian, who is believed to be in his 20s, was hit by a number of cars between Boreham and Hatfield Peverel at about 3am.
The northbound stretch of road between theses junctions remains closed this morning whilst forensic examinations are carried out.
One lane of the southbound carriageway is also closed.
The closures are causing long delays in both directions.
Southbound queues stretch back to Kelvedon South and there are tailbacks to the A130 at Howe Green on the northbound carriageway.
There are also delays in the surrounding areas.
Scott Egerton, of Essex Police Roads Policing Team, said: "This is a tragic incident where a man has died.
"The road will have to be closed for a number of hours during the rush hour but this is so important forensic recovery work can take place so we can find out how he died.
"Motorists are asked for their patience and understanding during this time."
UPDATED 10.40am
ALL lanes of the A12 have now reopened following this morning's accident.
Officers from Essex Police have finished their investigations at the scene.
Northbound queues remain back to the A130 at Howe Green, but traffic is moving well on the southbound carriageway.
