New flights from Southend Airport announced

Southend Standard: New flights from Southend Airport announced New flights from Southend Airport announced

FLYBE has announced new flights from Southend to Dublin.

The airline will start daily flights from Southend Airport to Dublin, with one-way fares from £29.99, from October 26.

Paul Simmons, Flybe’s chief commercial officer, said: “Today's announcement is a clear indication of our appetite to maintain momentum with our measured plans for growth. We are committed to increasing connectivity, both for business and leisure passengers across the UK regions and Europe and are doing so by using a rigorous profitability analysis and utilising our strict route assessment model.

“Dublin is a key European hub providing convenient onward travel to the US in particular. We forecast that our new services to Ireland’s capital will more than double our passenger growth into and out of its airport.

“We are of course pleased to add this destination to our services from London Southend and will be monitoring its success closely with an eye towards possible expansion.”

Aer Lingus, which already offers flights from Southend to Dublin, with connections to New York, Boston, Chicago, Orlando, Toronto and San Francisco, will reduce flights from 16 a week during the summer to five a week during the winter.

Is this the same route as Aer Lingus Regional, just operated in a purple plane instead of a green one?

More routes - yes, but I'm not sure flyBe is better than easyJet. The planes easyJet offer are much nicer than on flyBe.

I assume both Aer Lingus/Stobart Air and Flybe flights will offer connections to the USA as previously. It's not quite clear in the above report.

Never yet had a bad Easyjet experience...but I know others have. Compared to Ryan Air, Easyjet are the best budget airline by far. They have bigger cabin luggage allowances because the size of the plane. Flybe is very small cabin luggage sizes.= - which means buying yet another cabin bag. How about some flights to some Scandinavian locations? Success to them both at Southend.

Why don't Flybe pick up the Krakow route? I know many people who have taken the Easy jet , I have made it twice, and I cannot see why Easy jet are cancelling this one!

Yes, sadly Krakow is stopping after the summer months. I don't know the reason because it was a well supported link to Poland and one of the loveliest cities in Europe. I think by cancelling Krakow, Edinburgh and a few others, they can return one aircraft to another base. Easyjet don't seem to have any expansion plans for Southend.

I would like to know how Easyjet decide to cancel some destinations/routes.

For example, for the last 12 months from Southend, Krakow 48086 passengers, and Edinburgh 59599 passengers. Is that not enough to make a profit on their Airbus 319s? Hopefully a different airline will look at replacing these flights.
