Figures error delays Southend airport consultation
3:30pm Monday 9th June 2014 in Echo News
A CONSULTATION over Southend Airport’s plans to discharge run-off containing de-icer into nearby streams has been extended after the wrong figures were published.
The Environment Agency has extended the consultation until Wednesday, July 2, after a notice said the airport wanted to discharge 360 cubic metres of surface water a day into Prittle and Eastwood brooks, which lead to the River Roach, when the true figure was 5,273 cubic metres.
The Environment Agency, which is responsible for protecting the environment, only counted one of four outlets into the watercourses.
Its staff will be available to discuss the proposals and explain the agency’s role at a drop-in session at the Rochford Hotel, in Bradley Way, Rochford, on Monday, from 2pm to 7pm.
Comments on the application can also be emailed to psc-waterquality @environment-agency.gov.uk or posted to Permitting and Support Centre – Water Quality Team, Quadrant 2, 99 Parkway Avenue, Sheffield, S9 4WF.
