Burglar crept into pensioner’s bedroom...73-year-old woman terrified after being woken up by intruder

Southend Standard: Burglar crept into pensioner’s bedroom Burglar crept into pensioner’s bedroom

A BURGLAR sneaked into a pensioner’s bedroom and stole her jewellery box from next to her bed as she slept.

The thief then took the case in to the 73-year-old’s spare bedroom and emptied it on the bed.

The terrified pensioner awoke to hear the crook’s footsteps creeping across the landing of her home in Bridleway, Billericay.

She screamed out and the burglar fled.

The victim was not able to get a full description of the thief, but she does not believe he got away with any of her jewellery.

The burglary happened at about 11.10pm on Sunday, May 18.

Detectives have examined the property and believe he broke in to the house through the conservatory window.

A neighbour, who did not want to be named, said: “We have had a few burglaries in this road in recent years. It is worrying and it’s awful to hear it has happened to someone in your street.

“The police have been round to let us know there was a break-in so we are just being a bit more cautious with security.”

Detectives are appealing for anyone with information about the incident to contact them on 101.

THERE'S SOME SICK B.......... OUT THERE WHO ACTUALLY TARGET THE ELDERLY.
THEY ARE JUST COWARDS!
UNFORTUNATELY I KNOW THAT ALTHOUGH THE POWERS THAT BE HAVE TO STAY ON THE FENCE, BUT I STILL THINK THAT DUE TO THE LIGHTS BEING TURNED OFF AT NIGHT PEOPLE ARE SCARED TO GO OUT AT NIGHT.
IF YOU HAVE AN ELDERLY OR DISABLED NEIGHBOUR PLEASE JUST CHECK ON THEM THAT THEY ARE OK AND ALSO MAKE SURE THAT YOU CHECK THEIR CHILDREN SMOKE ALARMS FOR THEM BECAUSE YOU COULD SAVE THEIR LIFE.
MANY THANKS

When will we be able to defend our property properly not just lock up or an alarm. Why now if you have a dog that bites an intruder you are in the wrong for not controlling it. Anything that may hurt an intruder is illegal. Any burglar caught should not be covered with Human Rights as they have invaded somebody else's Human Rights.

That is rubbish. The amendment to the 1991 Dangerous Dogs Act in relation to "householder cases", brought in under the 2014 Anti-social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act, clearly states that prosecution does not apply if the victim is entering the property as a trespasser.
