ORGANISDED "enviro crooks" are thought to be behind a string of industrial-sized waste flytippings in south Essex.

Warehouses across Thurrock have been broken into before truck loads of mixed waste has been dumping leaving the owner with clean-up bills running into thousands of pounds.

Several hundred tonnes was dumped in a Grays warehouse last month.

Commerical land has also been targeted across the area.

An Environment Agency spokeswoman said: "We are investigating several incidents of waste being dumped on vacant commercial land and inside commercial units.

"Locks were cut and changed, obstacles moved, and units and offices entered without the knowledge or permission of the owners or agents.

"These landowners are now faced with bills of tens of thousands of pounds to clear this dumped waste."

Lesley Robertson, Environmental Crime Team Leader at the Environment Agency said: “We’re urging landowners to be vigilant and check any vacant land or units that they many own, rent or manage for signs of fly-tipped waste on a regular basis.”

She added: “Please report any large fly-tipping of waste or any suspicious activity to our free phone incident line 0800 807060. If you witness this type of fly-tipping in progress, please report it to Essex Police immediately.”

Waste crime and large-scale illegal tipping is on the rise as crooks try to avoid heft land filling charges and taxes when it is dumped at legitimate tips.

Todays news is that waste from Essex landfills will be used as fuels. Something I suggested 20 years ago. You build an incinerator and use it to generate energy to power street lights, traffic lights, Eric Pickles pacemaker and lots of other things. You know it makes sense! To continue to put cr*p in landfill is madness.

Then maybe the landfill charges and taxes shouldn't be so hefty. Surely the powers that be should be making sure all rubbish is used to provide energy in the form of heating etc.

Yes they were still there earlier today, but they are now both burnt out.

The Council are making it harder to get rid of rubbish which is why you see so much fly tipping .. I think that providing the waste isn't hazardous, you should be able to take it to any tip .. After all, most of it gets recycled so they make money out of it either way .. Better that than paying hundreds of pounds to clear up stuff people have dumped.

Well why not?

Said caravans are still there, with even more crap dumped around them. I saw a scrap metal type truck with several occupants parked in that layby last Friday - and a whole load of black sacks all over the show, freshly dumped.

What would happen if we all decided to dump our trash all over the highway. I'm sure all cameras would suddenly be working. And the police would of course classify it as criminal damage - or arson if we decide to blow it up as well.
