AN ASTRONOMICAL phenomenon reached as far south as Essex last night in what experts are calling a once-in-ten-years' event.
People reported seeing the Northern Lights across the county because of the clear skies.
Scotland and Norfolk also caught a glimpse of the Aurora Borealis in the extremely rare event.
The ethereal light displays are caused by collisions between electrically charged particles from the sun that enter into the earth’s atmosphere.
