STUDENTS from Southend’s Prospects College have the opportunity to gain valuable work experience with a leading company.
Kier, a construction company, is working with Prospects, which is based at Futures College in Southend, to provide opportunities for students aiming to get ahead in the construction industry.
Stephen Healy, apprentice training officer at Prospects College, said: “It is a fantastic opportunity for the students to gain experience in the workplace, and for them to be able to say to a future employer that they have worked in the industry.”
The first intake of students, 17-year-olds Liam McIver and Liam Confrey, will join the team at South Essex Homes, where Kier is responsible for repairs and maintenance to council homes, on Thursday, March 6.
The trainees are currently on the learning foundation course at the college, and will work with Kier for a short introductory period with the potential to extend their placement if they excel.
Both students will train in construction maintenance and learn basic construction skills, including bricklaying, plastering, carpentry and health and safety.
