AN ELDERLY woman who died while crossing the road near her home has been named.
Greta Mara, 83, suffered fatal head injuries on Saturday, at the junction of Mitchells Avenue and Gains Close, on Canvey.
She was treated by paramedics at the scene before being taken to Basildon Hospital.
She died just hours later.
In an inquest into her death, coroner’s officer Narder Beeson said: “This 83-year-old lady died at Basildon Hospital on February 15.
“She had been admitted to hospital after she was struck by a vehicle close to her home address. A post-mortem examination has given the provisional cause of death as head injuries.”
The body has been released and the inquest was opened and adjourned until March 31.
The female driver, who was in her thirties, was uninjured.
