ARMED police stopped a car in a quiet residential street after reports the driver had a gun.
Residents watched as four police vehicles raced down Wickford Avenue, Pitsea, at 1.45pm on Monday.
They pulled over the car, one of the vehicles penning the suspect’s car in, before turning their guns on him and demanding he give himself up.
Essex Police said they responded after reports of a man with a gun in Vange the same day.
One resident, who did not want to be named, said: “These police cars went sweeping past us, pulled him over and pointed their guns at the car. They were automatic weapons.
“He immediately got out of the car. He wasn’t any trouble.”
An Essex Police spokeswoman said: “A 22-year-old man from Basildon has been arrested on suspicion of being in posession of a firearm.”
