A girl was dragged to a field and raped in Rayleigh, with the teenager breaking a three year silence to report the incident.

Detectives have now launched a rape investigation after the girl came forward.

The incident happened when she was 13 on February 24, 2011 but she was too traumatised to report it until she confided in her family earlier this month.

She was walking home at about 9.30pm when she was assaulted by five men, aged between 25 and 35, in an alleyway between Bardfield Way and Langham Drive.

She was then dragged to a nearby field and assaulted again.

Police have issued an efit of the ringleader of the group.

Anyone who recognises the man should call police on 101.

With the published knowledge of Police Officers, lying about similar accusations of rape investigations, is it any wonder DC Hannah Notley a former Essex Police Detective was given 6 months imprisonment for not believing a rape victim. And then lying to both victim and her bosses.
She told the Crown Prosecution Service, there was no case to answer, she then went on to lie about the CPS not wanting to take it further to her bosses, Detective Inspectors, no doubt believed her, after all no one is bent in the Police are they ?
Her facebook page has many current serving officers supporting her, without a word for the real victim she should have been protecting and investigating. Bent coppers, leave a foul taste, and as such many heads will be rolling, in 2014 is it any wonder women who are raped are more than a little reticent to make it known, especially to Essex Police

Facebook sees the rats leaving a certain page as mentioned, why doesn't the new Super Chief Kavanagh do something about these so called C.I.D. Officers?
Because in his ivory tower, he doesn't see, beyond his rose tinted windows, and those so called C.I.D. are only there, as they are bloody useless anywhere else

Nothing in this article relates to bent coppers, but maybe you know more about this story than me...was this the rape that the policewoman lied about? I heard it on the news but didn't know where it was. However, I would comment that as truly awful as this is...and it is awful, what the hell is a 13 year old girl doing walking home at that time of night? What parents would let their child walk home, alone or otherwise, particularly when it is still dark outside? Poor girl, another young life screwed up, but again maybe I just have old values, but my kids would be out this late at 13 years old.

I hope the girl has come to terms with what happened and will be able to move on, accepting that she was unfortunate in being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Beware street-light switch off, it sure isn't going to help either to reduce crime itself, or reduce fear of crime! We are always told that people have too great a "fear" of crime - well it's no wonder when pitch black darkness can only make crime more likely.

I see the Echo censors have been doing a sterling job of upholding free speech again by deleting an entire on-line altercation between two people. Arguments ARE freedom of speech! Don't you understand that?

There's free speech, and there's an argument between two people.
There is a subtle difference. If people don't realize by now that the Echo is touchy on certain subjects, they never will.

Regarding this story, unless the girl knew the perpetrators of this alleged crime, there is little chance of a conviction now. It will be her word against theirs.

I merely doubted the girls claim as 'danger2013' does above..... what's there to be touchy about ?
