EMERGENCY services have been called to a car that got stuck on a cattle grid  - on a level crossing.

The vehicle broke down at about 8pm on the C2C line between Stanford and Pitsea, with the British Transport Police and Network Rail scrambled to rescue the ailing vehicle.

The railway is currently closed while the recovery takes place, with C2C warning that trains could be subjected to diversions or cancellations at short notice.

A cattle grid on a level crossing... Who the heck decided to put a cattle grid on a level crossing? What would happen if cattle got stuck in it and the train's coming?

Unusual for a car to get stuck on one though. I was brought up in the Peak District of Derbyshire and the things were all over the place. Never ever saw a car stuck on one, let alone cattle.

I think you will find cars are very common place everywhere not just the Peak District.

Cattle would not, or should not be loose in the vicinity, so would not get stuck anyway.

I-say-you-say says...

The woman was following her sat nav and it told her to turn left at the Fobbing crossing which she did. She then proceeded to drive up the train track until she got caught on the cattle grid further down (more than a few yards).

The alarm was raised and the issue was dealt with quickly and efficiently and thankfully there was no fatalities, vehicular, human or bovine. :0)
