Market set to reopen after £30million facelift

Southend Standard: Market set to reopen after £30million facelift Market set to reopen after £30million facelift

PITSEA’S new market will open tomorrow as the regeneration of the town continues.

The market will be on the site of the former Railway pub, in High Road, and will feature 80 new stalls, selling everything from fruit and vegetables to meat and fish stall, fashion and gifts.

The £30million improvement has been under construction since March 2013 as a new Morrisons superstore and Aldi prepare to open.

The market site has been under construction for the past ten months and will offer a huge boost to local traders, who have been suffering since building works has been going on.

Frank Nash, director at Charfleets, said: “This is great news for Pitsea and the market, as well as for the traders of the surrounding shops.

“The new market will be more compact and be much easier to navigate. We look forward to welcoming customers to the market.

“Although the new market will have more than 100 fewer stalls than before, it is not thought this will be a deciding factor as the new market will offer a better environment to shop in.”

Malcolm Buckley, councillor responsible for regeneration, said: “I am delighted the new Market Square has now been completed, as this is a real visible sign of progress and will give a boost to the town and local market traders.

“I hope local people go and visit the new Market Square and get behind the new market.”

The new market will be open on Wednesdays and Saturdays between 9am and 3.30pm while a second-hand market will run on Fridays.

Great news.

Keep up the good work.

it is really good to see the progress being made o this revamping of what had become a very tired looking area.

Lookingforward to the completion

Actually I assumed when reading the report that the referenece to 100 fewer stalls than before referred to more recent times than when the market was across the way under the domes.
