9 hurt in Westcliff bus crash

NINE people were hurt in a bus crash.
The woman bus driver and a passenger were among those who needed treatment at Southend Hospital.
The crash, involving a number 29 bus and a Lexus, happened in Westbourne Grove, Westcliff, at its junction with Fairfax Drive, at about 11.15am.
Four bus passengers were placed on spinal boards as a precaution, but their injuries are not thought to be serious.
The passenger side of the blue Lexus RX400 and the driver’s side of the bus were badly damaged.
Firefighters were called as fluid was seen leaking from the red single-decker bus, but it turned out to be coolant from the radiator.

Since when do Arriva have any red buses? That aside, I wish the injured passengers & driver speedy recoveries.

Correct the only local red buses to mind are Regal Busways. But then Fairfax Drive only has the one bus service. I guess we'll just have to put this down to the mysterious editorial decisions at the Echo!

I wrote to the Council Highways Department just 2 weeks ago to complain about the timing at these traffic lights - I hope this had nothing to do with this accident

It seems to be acceptable to drive through red lights now , London road in the rush hour being the worst

Here are the traffic light sequences for the Essex version of the highway code
Red for more than 3 seconds, stop
Red and amber, go
Green, go
Amber, go
Red, go, quickly, go go go
Red for more than 3 seconds, stop
