Southend Council has been criticised by Ofsted for the number of schoolchildren playing truant.
The council claims that since the report things have improved. It says attendance in Southend is pretty much in line with the national average and secondary pupils who are often absent applies to only a small number of pupils.
If it is only a small number of pupils involved, then it should be easy to correct and as for the area’s schools being much in line with the national average, the council should be working to get Southend schools above the national average.
