A FLOATING restaurant remains partially submerged under water almost six months after it started sinking at a shopping centre in Essex.

Customers watched on in shock two days before Christmas last year when the Miller and Carter restaurant at Lakeside Shopping Centre started to sink.

The popular steakhouse is housed on a converted paddle steamer on the attraction’s lake and begin tilting into the water on December 23.

Photographer Simon Murdoch has now captured some new pictures of the restaurant which remains partially submerged.

He said: “I went up to Lakeside at the weekend to see the Miller and Carter steakhouse is still sinking and submerged.

“It looks quite dramatic and so I took some photos of it.

“They have put up a pontoon around it on the water to prevent people getting near it on boats.”

Pictures shared with the Echo earlier this year showed the interior of the abandoned site has remained untouched since the incident.

A fully decorated Christmas tree remains onboard and tables are still in a prepared state ready for customers.

No one was injured during the initial sinking incident but a large operation was undertaken to safely evacuate everyone onboard.
