Essex Fire and Rescue Service have issued an update as crews continue work to extinguish an industrial unit blaze in Eastwood.

The service is now in a position to scale this incident down to five fire crews, two aerial ladder platforms, a water bowser and the drone team.

Throughout the day ten fire crews, two aerial ladder platforms, a water bowser and the drone team have worked to extinguish this fire in sections and to prevent it from spreading further.

Firefighters will likely remain on scene until the early evening to fully extinguish the huge blaze. The cordon on Progress Road has been reduced.

Group Manager Danny Partridge, incident commander, said: "We’d like to thank the public for their patience while we deal with this incident.

"We know how disruptive it is when roads close and when we ask you to keep your windows and doors closed but keeping the public safe has been our priority.

"There has been lots of smoke coming from the scene and this is slowly starting to minimise as we extinguish the fire in sections.

"If you live or work close to this fire, we recommend you keep your windows and doors closed still.

“Our crews worked quickly to get the fire under control and we’ve had lots of different resources here today working together to help us tackle the fire from above ground and below ground.

“We expect to remain on scene until the early evening and again thank the public for their patience.”
