Basildon Council is flying the Rainbow Flag in support of Essex Pride.
The flag will remain at the Basildon Centre over the weekend to show support for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, questioning, intersex (LGBTQi+) community.
The flag was raised by the Mayor of Basildon, David Harrison, who was accompanied by the deputy mayor, David Burton-Sampson, as well as other councillors and staff.
Mr Burton-Sampson said: “This is the first time that this flag, which is such a powerful symbol of equality and diversity, has flown above the Basildon Centre and that makes me proud.
“I am pleased that Basildon Council won’t be alone in flying a flag that symbolises our commitment to celebrate equality and diversity.”
