By VIVIENNE NICOLL PUBLIC services union Unison has organised a free screening of the Michael Moore film Sicko about the US health care system.

The event in Glasgow Film Theatre is to mark the 60th anniversary of the founding of Britain's National Health Service.

Union bosses say they hope the film, which is highly critical of the insurance-based US system of health care, will highlight the advantages of the free British system.

The film will be shown on January 15 and will be followed by a discussion featuring leading politicians and health workers.

Matt Smith, Unison's Scottish secretary, said: "As part of our campaign to revitalise public services, we are using Michael Moore's film to highlight the dangers inherent in moving away from a publicly-funded, publicly-accessible system of health care.

"But we are not complacent and want to discuss ways of making the system more accountable to the Scottish people, which is why we are also staging the discussion."

Tickets are free to the general public and available from the GFT box office on the day of the screening.
