THE parents of a 14-year-old schoolboy who was stabbed to death in London had left Glasgow because they thought it was too violent.

Police are hunting a gang of youths who pounced on Martin Dinnegan as he walked to a youth club.

It is thought the Celtic-mad teenager may have been mugged for his mobile phone.

The family moved south 13 years ago because they thought it would be a safer place to bring up their six children.

Martin is the 14th teenager to be murdered by gun or knife in London this year.

As the hunt for the schoolboy's killers goes on, his devastated mum Lorraine has spoken of her "indescribable loss."

She found out what had happened when Martin's brother, James 20, rang her in tears and said: "Martin has been stabbed.

"He has stopped breathing. I think he's dead."

Lorraine, 39, a home economics teacher, said: "It is just horrendous. I am just totally numb and shocked that somebody's life can be taken away for so little. It is all so pointless.

"His five brothers and sisters are all devastated too."

Police have condemned the stabbing in Islington, as "vicious".

A spokesman said the killers were after Martin's mobile phone.

He said: "A bunch of lads came up to him. Things were said. Some people have said that it was, Give us your mobile.' "Whatever was said, one of the thugs then stabbed Martin."
