A PAN of hot oil sparked a kitchen fire in Benfleet.
Firefighters were called to a bungalow in Kents Hill Road at 12.15pm when a fire broke out in a kitchen.
A pan of hot oil had been left unattended.
Firefighters tackled the blaze, which set fire to an overhead extractor fan which crashed down on the pan splashing burning oil and caused the fire to spread, with a quarter of the kitchen on fire.
The blaze was put out by 12.41pm by crews from Rayleigh Weir.
