A MAN has died following a car crash in Basildon in the early hours of this morning.

Police are appealing for witnesses following the incident which happened in Cranes Farm Road, Basildon, at around 1am.

It is understood that the man, a 44-year-old from the Laindon area, was in collision with vehicles that were travelling along Cranes Farm Road, near the Gloucester Park swimming pool.

The man sadly died at the scene.

Three vehicles, a silver Renault Clio, a black Ford KA and a black Ford Fiesta, were at the scene of the incident.

None of the drivers or passengers in these vehicles suffered injuries and no arrests have been made.

The eastbound carriageway of the road was closed but reopened at around 8.30am today.

Inspector Steve Brewer, Road Policing Unit Commander at Essex Police, said: "We are investigating the circumstances leading up to this tragic incident. We would like to speak to any witnesses or anyone that has any information about what happened.”
