LOUIE Soares is desperate for Sunday’s match against Barnet to go ahead.

For not only will the winger be facing his former side at Roots Hall.

But he is also determined to start impressing for Southend United on a more consistent basis.

“My form so far has been a bit up and down this season and I want to change that,” said Soares, 25.

“I haven’t played as many games as I would’ve liked but if I can start to play well then hopefully that will change.

“That’s why I’m desperate for the match to go ahead this weekend and I really want to get my first home goal for the club.”

Soares’ only effort for Southend so far came away against Barnet back in October.

The winger netted a fine individual effort against the Bees in a 3-1 win in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy.

And he is keen to add to that tally.

“I should be scoring more goals and that’s a target of mine for the remainder of the season,” said Soares.

“Hopefully I can get one against Barnet again and we can get another three points.”

Soares joined Blues on a free transfer from Aldershot during the summer.

But before then he had spent a season with Barnet, making 25 appearances and scoring one goal in a spell he recalls with fond memories.

“I enjoyed my time at Barnet,” said Soares.

“I had just been released by Reading and was able to go straight there which was great. They had just won the league so it was a good place to be and there was a brilliant set of lads.

“I did really like it there but obviously I’m with Southend now and want to beat them on Sunday.”

Blues head in to the game fresh from their festive celebrations.

And Soares insisted that had helped bring the team even closer together.

“We all went out in fancy dress and it was a great night,” said Soares.

“I was Sonic the Hedgehog but some of the other costumes were quite disturbing with people coming as Lady Gaga and things like that.

“But it was all a good laugh and definitely good for team spirit.”
