SOUTHEND captain Chris Green will be back for his side’s trip to Dings Crusaders tomorrow.

Green missed last weekend’s shock defeat to Clifton with a slight back problem.

And the Seasiders head coach Andy Holloway is pleased to be restoring him to the starting line-up.

“Chris will play and he’s a big character so it will be great to have him back,” said Holloway.

“One of the most disappointing things for me last week was that people hid when the going got tough and when Clifton got back in to the game.

“That shouldn’t be happening because we do have a lot of experienced players and we can’t afford to let it happen again.”

Southend still top the National Two South standings but they remain hurt by last Saturday’s 33-26 defeat at home to Clifton.

Holloway believes the players let themselves down with their below par performance at Warners Bridge.

But he is prepared to give the same players an opportunity to make amends.

“They have one more chance,” insisted Holloway who has made just one change to his team.

“We were all disappointed by last weekend because we had the game won and let it slip.

“We may still be top of the table but it’s only be one point when it should really be six.

“The players let a lot of people down with how they played and can’t afford to make the same kind of mistakes tomorrow.”

Dings were held to a 30-30 draw at home to Canterbury last weekend and sit ninth in the table having triumphed four times in nine games.

They are a traditionally hard team to beat at their own ground and Holloway wants his side to approach the test in the right way.

“It is a difficult place to go and it will be physical but you don’t want to build it up to be more difficult than it actually is,” said Holloway.

“You have to concentrate on your own jobs and not worry about any external factors.

“People often get wound up by the crowd and make excuses about the pitch and the surroundings.

“But we don’t want to get caught up in any of that.

“We want to remain focused on the game and our mental approach has to be spot on.

“If it is then we have the talent in the team to get a good result and if a trip to the west country doesn’t fire up to play then nothing will.”
