CENTURION Rettendon openers J Roworth and J Wall helped set up a 274-run thumping of Danbury in Division Two.

Roworth hit 127 off 100 balls and Wall 107 from 110 deliveries for a first wicket stand of 199.

Mark Everitt added 60 off 51 balls and when Wall perished near the end of the innings, Tim Everitt scored a quick 19 not out to take Rettendon to 345-2 off 45 overs.

Danbury never really got going chasing such a massive target and wickets fell at regular intervals as Phil Everitt (5-16) and Will Ingram (4-28) did the business.

“It was another fine all-round team performance with four good catches also being taken,” said Rettendon’s Mark Everitt.

Rayleigh’s first team’s drive for promotion to the Premier Division took another dip at Great Walth-am. The hosts batted first and scored 236-6, but Rayleigh fell short by 12 runs in the 44th over, with James Ellis top-scoring with 37.

Canvey Island’s first team were beaten at home by second-placed Herongate in Division Two.

Canvey bowled well to restrict Herongate to 217-7 and felt they were in charge at the break with Mark Robinson (3-41) and Chris Foot (2-32) the pick of the bowlers.

But Herongate’s bowlers were soon on top also and despite good knocks from Ross Casson (30), Robinson (29) and Jamie Casson (24), Canvey kept losing wickets and were eventually all out for just 137 and an 80-run defeat.

Stock II clocked up a 96-run win over hosts Navestock in Division Four after posting 270-9. Cockley (49) led the way for Stock as Oliver claimed 3-32. Fielding’s 3-28 helped bowl Navestock out for 174, with Horsnell hitting 60.

South Woodham Ferrers hosted High Easter and won by 128 runs after batting first. Rayner (53) provided most resistance to an attack led by Thompson (4-42) as Ferrers posted 214 all out. Casey took 3-16 as High Easter were bowled out for 86 in reply Southend & EMT secured a narrow six-run win at home to Rayne.

The Seasiders saw Wynn hit 117 and get support from Shepherd (42) as they hit 278-8 despite Sains-bury’s 4-85. Whiteside (93), Shep-pard (68) and Banks (53) led the run chase, which ended at 272-6.

Rayleigh’s seconds batted first and were all out for 159, with only Colin Mayor (57) troubling the bowlers, who were led by Rolfe (4-39). Sandon Sports passed this total for the loss of two wickets thanks to Rehman (80no) and Rogers (52). Rayleigh team into a Division Five relegation position as a result of the defeat.

Ashingdon enjoyed a 153-run win over visitors Ingatestone in a match in which Ellango walloped the visitors for 165. Gratton (64) also got among the runs in a total of 240-6, with Poole taking 4-73. Du Plessis claimed 5-51 as Ingatestone were dimissed for 187, with Speller hitting 54.

Thirteen was lucky for Hullbridge as they defeated visitors Rainham by 13 runs. Oxley (68) helped the Hullbridge hosts to 153 all out in the face of an attack led by Fuller (4-14) and Havard (4-29). Houchin (5-26) and Grange (3-32) did the damage as Rainham were bowled out for 140, with Reynolds scoring 31.

Canvey Island’s seconds gained their third Division Seven win of the season with a convincing eight-wicket win over Havering-atte-Bower. Gary Snowdon (4-43), Tom Hughes (2-26) and Phil Foot (2-36) bowled Havering out for just 171.

The Canvey batsmen made light work of the total with Neil Casson (47), Terry Snowdon (45no) and Matt Snowdon (37) leading the way.

Rayleigh’s thirds travelled to Hockley II, who batted first and scored 216-6. Rayleigh scored 220-9 in reply to move into second place in Division Eight. George Barker (38no) and Matt Verrinder (36) led the scoring.

Rayleigh’s fourths played Hockley III and scored 186 all out, with Brad Walker (71) leading the scoring. Hockley passed this score for the loss of two wickets, which left the fourths in a relegation position in Division 10.

Rayleigh’s fifths bowled Great Baddow III out for 190 thanks to Luke Keeley (3-37) and Christian Humphries (3-37). Rayleigh totalled 150 in reply, with Christian Humphries scoring 26 and Luke Keeley 21.

Hockley II lost out by two runs against Division Six basement team Tillingham II. Pastfield (3-23) and R Warren (3-19) did the business for Hockley as they bowled their hosts out for 80. D Thompson hit 32, but Smith’s 3-9 helped see Hockley bowled out for 78 in reply.

Billericay’s Bluehouse travelled to Great Baddow II and lost by seven wickets. W Lovatt (73), J Walsh (36no) and A Herridge (35) helped Bluehouse to 199-6, while Pannell took 3-49 and Olivelle 3-42. T Pulahm’s unbeaten 101 adn 44 from M Smith guided Baddow to 200-3 in reply.

Rayleigh Fairview II defeated hosts St John’s Billericay by six wickets. Brown top-scored for St John’s before they were bowled out for 146, with Hawkins (3-13) leading the attack. Ames hit an unbeaten 37 as Fairview knocked off the runs with 149-4, with Latey taking 2-42.
