STAN Ferguson and Brian Rackham were runaway winners when Rochford Hundred held their qualifier for the Kindred Club Greensome competition.

The 36-hole final is to be held at Southend Golf Club's Belfairs course on July 18 and Ferguson and Rackham romped in with 43 Stableford points - six more than their closest rivals.

The deadly duo - Ferguson plays off eight and Rackham 12 - chalked up a four pointer and seven three pointers to easily win Saturday's qualifier ahead of Roger Newell and Jack Archibald who had 35 and will also be in the team.

Sunday's top duo were ex Club Captain George Kemp and Peter Richardson whose 37 points included a four pointer and a brace of threes.

The other pair to represent Rochford were Paul Green and Dave Proctor on 34 thanks mainly to six three pointers.

Nigel Mathers fired two birdies and 10 pars in his 43 points which won Rochford's weekly Stableford competition to qualify for the Scott Spencer Trophy.

Mathers saw his handicap cut one to 10 and runner-up Peter Wigg now plays off five after finishing a point behind with a trio of birdies plus 10 pars the highlights.

Paul Nippard was third on 41 after shooting three birdies and six pars with his handicap also down one to 15.

Rochford Ladies had two good home wins in Essex team competitions — the Silver Shield crushing Upminster 6-1 while the Silver Trophy side saw off Chelmsford 4-1.

On the domestic front the ladies held their qualifier for the club's Foursomes with eight pairs going through to the knock-out stage.

Sue Proctor and on-form Maria Williams were superb leading the way home with a great net 66.
