THE final of the Active Southend Evening Cricket League knock out cup was a low scoring game, but it provided an exciting finish with Prittlewell winning by two wickets off the fourth ball of the last over.

The pitch, which was devoid of grass and with probably a little moisture from the morning rain, always provided assistance for the bowlers and not one batsman was able to dominate.

Emersons won the toss and decided to bat first, but only James Sanford (16) and Peter Heath (15) with a late flourish from D Fullerton (15) reached double figures in a total of 79-9 off 15 eight-ball overs.

Andy Hunt (2-11 off five overs) and Jordan Buckley (3-14 off three overs) were always on top for the Prittlewell attack.

Despite losing Buckley early, Prittlewell were handily placed at 48-1 off nine overs.

Then Iain McDonald was out for 12, quickly followed by Wayne Spear for 25.

Wickets then fell regularly until the 15th over was reached with six runs required.

Adam Hunt scored two off the first ball of the over, followed by a well-hit four off the fourth ball to win the match for Prittlewell by two wickets with two ball remaining.

Les Beagley bowled magnificently to take 5-17 off four overs, but in the end 79 was not quite enough in a great final which fully justified the decision to hold the Knock Out Cup again after a four-year gap.
