THE hot weather understandably started to slow the daytime fishing last week at Doggetts, although most early morning anglers landed some good fish.

The carp anglers enjoyed sport with numerous doubles leaving the bigger fish to tease as they were very visible cruising in the warm sunshine.

Tench and bream provided good sport to the float fishermen who often complained about not being able to stop the larger tench which had very visibly shoaled up in the back pool.

Southend angler Gregory Choat landed some good tench to 6lb from the long arm plus a low double common, while fishing companion Carl Halliday landed a very scrappy 13lb mirror plus a new personal best with a very pretty 21lb mirror.

Chris Flethcher from Southend opened his account with his first cast on the short arm.The 20.5lb mirror also proved to be Fletcher’s new PB, closely followed by a 16lb common and numerous tench and bream.

Rochford anglers Lewis Clark and Charlie Thipthorpe landed four doubles on dog biscuits during an afternoon session but another quartet escaped the net.

Wayne Wood was flushed with considerable carp success last week, so returned for another day on the long arm.

This time he only managed a low double, although he was pleased with some very scrappy tench.

Had Wood landed the possible 20-pounder that took him all round the lake his bag would have been considerably larger.

Ross Keys had a 16lb common from the long arm and his catch was topped up with tench. Ross Bellott landed a 16lb common from the south bank point.

The happiest angler of the week had to be eight-year-old Lee Mesher, who enjoyed his first ever fishing trip using float-fished dog biscuits.

With a little help to stop him being pulled in, Mesher landed six good tench and four bream. A bag of fish which many an adult would have been very pleased with.
