IT was the best turnout so far for the Wednesday match at Northlands Park, where Wayne Candy once again took first place with a total weight of 28lb 10oz.

Candy decided to fish the shallow end of the cafe lake where a gentle breeze was pushing.

John Humphrys was in second place with 22lb 13oz and third place went to Peter Steward with 16lb 8oz.

The matches continue this evening. Meet at the concrete slope on the cafe lake at 5pm. The match starts at 6pm and finishes at 9pm and two keep nets are required.

Prices are £15 which includes £3 ticket and £12 pools.

Basildon anglers Colt Spooner and Mark Keller fished an afternoon session at Northlands Park, targeting the small carp on the cafe lake.

They landed no fewer than 50 fish and their successful method was fishing the feeder with pellet and maggots.

The following day Spooner returned to Northlands Park to fish the road lake and landed a 14lb 12oz mirror and a 17lb 10oz common.

The larger carp are still showing on the canal stretch at Gloucester Park.

John Whitmore fished a midweek 24-hour session and landed five carp, two at 19lb, two mid doubles and a 23lb 12oz mirror.

Whitmore’s successful method was feeding the margin with pellet and hemp while fishing 14mm halibut pellet tipped with plastic sweetcorn on the hair.

Albert Taylor popped down from Loughton and fished his first ever 24-hour session at Gloucester Park on the cockle bank and landed 18 carp up to 17lb 4oz.
