FORMER Southend United man Justin Hazell has signed for Braintree Town.
The ex-Southend United striker has rejected a new one-year contract at Roots Hall.
Instead, the 18-year-old former Westcliff High School for Boys pupil wants to pursue a career outside football and has jumped at the chance to play semi-professionally for the Iron.
Braintree boss Rod Stringer said: “It’s a great signing and could be very exciting for Braintree.
“Justin wants a career outside football so didn’t like the idea of staying at Southend.
“But he’s been with them for 10 years, coming through the ranks, so comes from good stock and has had a good grounding.
“Hopefully he’ll be a very useful addition to our squad as he can play down either side of midfield or up front.
“We’re looking forward to seeing him at pre-season training.”
