SOUTHEND United have confirmed 2,000 fans will be allowed back in Roots Hall next month.

All 1,639 season card holders will be able to attend the home clash with Scunthorpe United on Saturday December 12.

And a club statement from the Shrimpers confirmed the club had welcomed the news.

The statement said: "Southend United Football Club note the county of Essex will enter Tier Two restrictions when the national lockdown ends next week.

"This allows public attendance at Roots Hall up to a maximum of 2,000 people, meaning Blues fans will be able to return to watch live football.

"The club is delighted with the prospect of 2,000 fans returning and will now be working in partnership with local agencies to ensure the safe return of supporters to the stadium as soon as possible.

"1,639 season cards have been sold for the 20/21 campaign, therefore all of those to have purchased one will be able to take their seat very soon.

"Hospitality offerings will also be available, subject to discussions with the local authorities.

"We understand that supporters will be keen to receive more information on the prospect of returning to Roots Hall and we will update fans with more as and when the club receives formal guidance from the EFL.

"Thank you for your support."
