SOUTHEND United fans are being urged to sign up for an online FIFA tournament to raise funds for Havens Hospices.

The competitions will be played on both X Box One and PS4.

And event organiser Chris Phillips is keen for as many people as possible to take part.

“I was lucky enough to have a look round the new Havens building not so long ago and it’s a fantastic facility for our local area,” said Phillips.

“They rely on fundraising to keep it going and unfortunately because of everything that’s going on at the moment they’ve had to cancel quite a lot of events which will have a big impact.

“But with everyone stuck at home I thought there could be quite a few people who would want to get involved and help to raise funds for such a good cause.”

Prizes already secured as part of the competition include next season’s Blues shirt, a copy of Fifa 21,the chance to play FIFA against Southend midfielder Lewis Gard, a signed Match of the Day script and a case of 24 beers from Laine Brew Co.

Those prizes will be split between the two tournaments but both winners will receive a trophy.

The tournament has also received a generous donation from MSPFX but anyone else keen to lend their support should email chris.phillips@newsquest.co.uk.

And Phillips was also keen to thank those who have already got involved.

“A big thanks must go to MSPFX and also to Rylee Doe who is helping me to organise it as I’m too old to understand how it works!,” said Phillips.

“Hopefully we can get our football fix this way too.”

To enter the competition please donate a minimum of £5 to www.justgiving.com/helpforhavens while also emailing chris.phillips@newsquest.co.uk to confirm your interest and if you would like to play on X Box One or PS4.

Those who wish to take part have until 5pm on April 2nd to sign up.
