SOUTHEND United manager Sol Campbell opted against making a move for defender Miles Welch-Hayes, due to the club’s transfer embargo.
Blues are still waiting to officially register former Macclesfield Town duo Theo Vassell and Emmanuel Osadebe.
And Campbell therefore decided not to pursue their ex-Silkmen team-mate Welch-Hayes who went on to sign for Colchester United.
Campbell said: “Miles is a great player and a great athlete but what can you do?
“If you can’t get two over the line then what’s the point in talking to a third?”
Shrimpers chairman Ron Martin told Echosport last week that the club must pay £600,000 to HMRC before they can come out of their transfer embargo.
