MICHAEL Klass feels ready to kick on at Southend United.

The 20-year-old midfielder returned to Roots Hall last week after spending the first half of the season with National League high-flyers Bromley.

But Klass is now back with Blues and is keen to work his way into Sol Campbell’s plans.

“The loan was good for me and I definitely learnt a lot which is going to help me being back at Southend,” said Klass.

“Looking back now I think I was technically ready to play for Southend but I probably wasn’t ready maturity wise.

“I’ve been away now though and I feel as though I’ve got a greater understanding of the game which hopefully will stand me in good stead.”

Klass joined the Shrimpers in the summer of 2017 after leaving Queens Park Rangers and made 15 first team appearances before heading out on loan.

The midfielder played 17 times while with Bromley but the majority of those appearances came from the bench.

And Klass was slightly frustrated not to start more.

“Ideally I would have liked to have started more but it was still good for me to be involved with a team going for promotion,” said Klass.

“Being with them every day was great and it was definitely a really good experience for me and my career.

“Preparing for matches and playing in matches with three points at stake was great.

“It was a big step up from kids football and I want to try and get more of that now.”

Klass trained with the Shrimpers towards the end of last week.

And he is happy to be back at Blues.

“It’s good to be back with Southend again as I had missed all the boys and everyone here,” said Klass.

“I feel as though I’ve grown up while I’ve been away but now I’m back I’m 100 per cent focused and ready to do all I can to play.

“It was frustrating not being involved at the start of the season but there’s no point in being angry about that now.

“I want to be involved with the first team and there are a lot of games coming up.

“I want to be helping the boys pick up points and doing all we can to stay in the League as well.

“No-one is giving up on that.”

The Shrimpers, who head to Doncaster Rovers tomorrow night, are currently second from bottom in the League One standings, 12 points from safety.
