SOUTHEND United are in talks with two transfer targets, Echosport understands.
The Shrimpers have yet to bolster their squad during the January transfer window.
But Blues are currently in discussions with a defender and an attacking midfielder who are both currently playing in League Two.
With striker Tom Hopper set to join Lincoln City and Timothee Dieng sidelined with a hamstring problem the Shrimpers currently have just 14 fit senior players available.
Striker Stephen Humphrys is also facing an uncertain future with Doncaster Rovers believed to be keen on signing him.
Blues, who sit second from bottom in the standings, are without a game this weekend but will return to action at Doncaster Rovers next Tuesday.
