SOUTHEND United boss Sol Campbell was boosted by his side’s battling performance in a 2-2 draw with Rotherham United.
The Shrimpers remain second from bottom in League One, 10 points from safety.
But Campbell felt it was a good point for his team.
“The performance was really good and the lads played really well against a dangerous Rotherham side who are doing well,” said Campbell.
“Considering where we are and where Rotherham are it’s a good point but we also had a lot of chances to come away with a win.
“We need more believe going forward and thinking we can score. “We also need to be sharper in the box but that will come the more we train and I thought the lads really did show character.
“We need to iron out some mistakes still but maybe a month or so ago this was a game we would probably have lost.”
Rotherham pushed hard for a late winner and Campbell was pleased with how Blues dug in to secure a share of the spoils.
“We dusted ourselves off and we showed some character,” said Campbell.
“Towards the end they had a lot of set plays and corners and we had to have out wits about us to get the point.
“Hopefully this will boost our confidence now too.”
