SOUTHEND United’s caretaker manager Gary Waddock felt the Shrimpers should have taken more than a point from tonight’s clash at Tranmere Rovers.
The game ended in a 1-1 draw after the hosts’ Paul Mullin cancelled out Tom Hopper’s early opener.
But Waddock thought Blues should have won.
“We should’ve got more than a point,” said Waddock.
“We played extremely well and we had more than enough chances to kill the game off.
“It’s frustrating we didn’t see it through but I’m absolutely thrilled for Hops for him to mark his return with a finish of that quality.
“I’m really pleased for him but I am for all the players really.
“They showed what they’re about tonight but the group have to push on from here now. This is the marker they’ve set themselves.”
The Shrimpers have still triumphed just once all season.
And Waddock seemed frustrated by the penalty which enabled Tranmere to equalise late on.
“They won the penalty more than anything else,” said Waddock.
“That’s all I’ll say on that.”
