BILLERICAY Town appear to be closing in on signing striker Wes Thomas.

Town owner Glenn Tamplin has been working around the clock to bring reinforcements to the Steel Team Stadium ahead of the forthcoming National League South campaign.

And Tamplin released a cryptic tweet this morning, which seems to suggest that Thomas is on his way to Billericay.

Tamplin tweeted: “Well Excited So The Happy Old Manager As Signed his man.”

Echo:

The Billericay owner constructed the tweet so that the start of each line spelt the name ‘Wes Thomas’.

A day earlier, Tamplin stated that Billericay’s new frontman had turned down three offers from League One clubs in order to make the move.

Tamplin also suggested that the new signing will arrive at the club on August 1 – two days ahead of Billericay getting their season underway against Eastbourne Borough.

Thomas, 32, was released by Grimsby Town earlier this summer despite being the Mariners’ top goalscorer last term.

The striker, who hails from Barking, also counts Dagenham & Redbridge, Thurrock and Grays Athletic among his former clubs before going onto represent the likes of Bournemouth, Portsmouth and Birmingham City in the Football League.
