SOUTHEND United manager Chris Powell heaped praise on Emile Acquah after the striker's impressive first team debut at Peterborough United.

The teenage striker played the final 19 minutes in place of Simon Cox at London Road.

And Powell was pleased with how the forward performed in the closing stages of his side's 2-0 defeat.

"Emile showed some nice touches and he’s a player who has caught my eye," said Powell.

"He’s been out on loan at Harlow because we felt he needed some men’s football.

"He’s taken to it well and I just felt he offers us something different.

"He’s a good size and I think he will get better.

"He will fill out even more and he’s a player who will do well and that's why I put him in the 18.

"He’s got a presence and people won’t know too much about him either.

"His link up play is good and he keeps I simple.

"Hopefully it will give him a lift and some confidence moving forwards."
