ELVIS Bwomono is determined to get Southend United’s season back on track and does not mind where he plays to help that happen.

Bwomono was switched to left-back for the Shrimpers’ 2-0 defeat at Portsmouth on Saturday.

But the 20-year-old is keen to do whatever it takes to help Chris Powell’s stuttering side get back to winning ways.

“I really don’t mind playing left-back and I’m happy to play wherever the manager wants me to,” said Bwomono.

“I played there six times towards the end of last season and it wasn’t a problem playing there at Portsmouth.

“I did some work the day before the game just to get my body shape right on the side of the pitch and I think it’s good to be able to play in other positions.

“Obviously Portsmouth is a tough place to go but it was frustrating to lose and now we want to do all we can to get the win against Accrington this weekend.”

Saturday’s defeat at Fratton Park meant Blues have now been beaten in five of their last six outings in League One.

The slump in form has seen the Shrimpers slip to 15th in the standings and second from bottom in the form guide for the last six games.

Accrington - who visit Roots this weekend - are the only team in the division to have picked up less points in the last six games.

And Bwomono is fully aware how important it is for Blues to win this weekend.

“It’s a big game but every game is big,” said the defender.

“If we can get a win then hopefully we can get a run going because we’ve already shown we can do that this season.

“It wasn’t too long ago we won three in a row and we want to get that kind of consistency going again now because it’s something we’re capable of doing.”
