CANVEY Island were hot stuff in winning 4-0 at Felixstowe & Walton.

The Gulls went off for a team-bonding curry in the week.

And boss Mark Bentley was pleased to see his players reap their rewards.

“We had a good week and it included a team bonding curry on Tuesday night,” said Bentley.

“We have that unity you need in the team and I’m pleased because we haven’t scored goals in the last few weeks.

“We were the much better team and we could’ve won by more.

“It was a good performance and we’ve had three boys coming in who made a massive difference.

“Adam Topley has come in on loan from Concord and we had Elliott Warren back from an ankle injury.

“Kane Gilbert has come in too (from Halstead) and he was excellent too.

“Without putting pressure on him, he’s a special kid.”

“But we have to go and build on this now.”

Frankie Merrifield and Josh Hutchinson both netted for Canvey before Martin Tuohy bagged a brace to complete the scoring.

Canvey are now 10th in Bostik North with Bowers leading the way after coming from behind to beat Dereham Town 3-1.

Bradley Warner bagged a brace for Bowers while Richard Halle was also on target.

Basildon United suffered a last gasp 2-1 defeat at Maldon & Tiptree.

The Bees seem to be heading for a share of the spoils when Ayrton Coley netted an equaliser but the Jammers bagged an 89th minute winner.

Great Wakering Rovers drew 1-1 with Mildenhall Town.
