THREE new cases of a deadly bacterial infection have been confirmed in the county.
The Mid Essex Clinical Commissioning Group has today revealed one new case of the Invasive Group A Streptococcus (IGAS) infection has been found in the area, and a further two in west Essex.
Of the two confirmed in the western side of the county, one patient has sadly died.
It takes the death toll from the outbreak, which began in Braintree back in February, up to 13.
The CCG says the two cases discovered in west Essex have been linked to the outbreak in Braintree, Maldon and Chelmsford following an investigation.
A total of 35 patients have been affected so far, with 31 of those cases officially confirmed by experts.
Health bosses are continuing to investigate the cause of the outbreak, which remains unknown.
Many patients diagnosed with the infection are elderly people receiving treatment for chronic wounds in their own homes.
Some have also been confirmed in care homes.
Anyone with concerns should contact the freephone helpline on 03000 032124.
