A COUPLE who beat all the odds, and a bout of amnesia, to find true love the second time round have had their heartwarming story recognised with a national award.

Jane and Kevin Whitehead, from Southend, dated as teenagers for a while, but went their separate ways.

But when Kevin was 22, he was knocked off his motorbike, which left him with large gaps in his memory.

As he fought to recover, Kevin’s psychologist advised him to contact people from his past to help him stimulate his memory.

Scrolling through website Friends Reunited he spotted Jane’s name, which leapt out, although he couldn’t remember why.

Summoning all his courage, he rang Jane and asked if she would help him try to recover his memories, which she agreed to do.

As they spent more and more time together, love blossomed again and the couple married in 2007.

They went on to become parents to twins, Louie and Olivia in March.

Their incredible story saw them nominated for the ultimate love story award at Cosmopolitan magazine’s annual awards, and they were crowned the winners.

Jane, 31, said: “We were nominated by a friend and we still haven’t found out who it was, but we are over the moon to have won. It was a fantastic evening.”

Kevin, 30, who works for London Underground, said: “At first we thought it would just be an awards ceremony, but some of the people there had done such amazing things.

“We felt very honoured to be there.”
