ENGLAND World Cup legend Sir Geoff Hurst popped into a new house to visit the parents of ill children.
Sir Geoff, who famously scored a hat-trick in the victory over West Germany in 1966, visited Basildon Hospital’s Ronald McDonald House.
The three-bedroom house, next to the hospital’s paediatric unit, allows families of sick children to stay overnight in comfortable surroundings while their children receive treatment.
Matron Sally Brown, who is acting head of nursing for children’s services, said: “The house provides a quiet and calm sanctuary for tired parents, whether they want to stay overnight, have a shower, wash clothes or just sit down and have a cup of tea.
“So many of our guests have become supporters and fundraisers for the hospital since their stay and I think Sir Geoff was truly impressed by its
