DARTH Vader and his Storm Troopers joined with a group of Ewoks and other Star Wars characters at Adventure Island yesterday, to raise money for a medic injured after being hit with a quad bike.

The Southend medic was dealing with a car crash victim on Western Esplanade on 23 May, when he was hit by a quad bike.

The fundraising visit was organised by 127MMCC - a motorcycle club sponsored by the 127Diner on the A127 near Basildon.

The Star Warriors arrived at the Southend seafront fun park on the back of club members’ bikes and spent several hours delighting visitors and collecting £1015.

Organiser, Bartholomew Simpson, said: “We do a lot of charity work for various causes but decided to do this one out of respect for Victor - these guys do an awesome job and people just wanted to show their support for him after what happened.

“It was an absolutely brilliant day and could not have gone better, as people were just so generous. It was incredibly hot though – I felt so sorry for the guys dressed as furry Ewoks!”

Two men have been arrested in connection with the incident.

James Lewis, 28, of Broomfield Street, Poplar, east London, has appeared before magistrates charged with causing grievous bodily harm, dangerous driving, causing injury by wanton and furious driving, driving while disqualified, driving without insurance, driving without a licence and escaping from lawful custody.

He was remanded in custody until his next appearance, at Basildon Crown Court, on July 23.

A 21-year-old man, from Rainham, who was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, has been bailed until August 6.
